Emeralds and Lace | Maternity Photography; Patapsco River, MD

I had a vision for these amazing maternity images, a creek, a white gown, lush green trees… and since I didn’t want to convince any client of mine to jump into a lake wearing a lace dress while very pregnant, I had the idea to do it myself. Unfortunately I was due with my son in February, so THAT wasn’t happening. Luckily though! One of my very best friends in the whole world is due very soon (May babies are the best because I’m not biased at ALL) and she is brave and beautiful- the perfect combination to make my dreams come true. Her super awesome husband Don came along for some fun and they brought their pup Maddie, who was nice enough to play along for one shot (she was too busy exploring the creek otherwise.) All in all we had a lovely little session by the creek we’ve had picnics by years past and it was everything I hoped it would be and so much more.

After her session, Erin had a henna blessing with a few other ladies and I HAD to get a few of that amazing art work as the sun was setting. Magic. All around.

I can’t wait to meet that baby soon!!

Spring into TWO! | Family Photography; Alexandria, VA

Oh Char. I love when we hang out and have fun during our sessions. I always laugh and squeal and we run around and act silly. Your parents are the sweetest and always make my job such a joy. This was our fourth session together so I’ve seen you grow from a barely sitting up on your own 6 month old to a spunky two year old and it has been such a treasure to capture all of the inbetweens. I can’t wait until we hang out again!

Look how big you’ve gotten, Miss Blue Eyes!

With little ones it feels like the days are so long, but the years fly by. This is why my job is so rewarding. It’s not always the immediate love and instant gratification, but it’s in looking back years later and being so glad to have those moments kept for you in perfect condition.

Karter, 9 Days New | Newborn Photography; Germantown, MD

It never gets old to me to snuggle a fresh new baby. There’s just something really beyond this world to look into the eyes of a newborn. There is a whole universe to learn about, little guy. I’m so glad we could meet at the beginning of your journey and I hope to see you again!

Jamie’s Jammin’ Cake Smash! | Cake Smash Photography; Germantown, MD

I love meeting new clients, especially when we have such a good time chatting before our session! Jamie’s mama, Akelah, and I gushed over our plans for Jamie’s cake smash session for over a month. She’s my kinda lady because we were sending emojis and gifs all over the place in our conversation. I love it! So I knew we were going to hit it off right away, and we definitely did! I introduced myself to Jamie and she quickly jumped into my arms! Instant BFFs! Not only did we giggle over me trying to eat her toes, but Jamie and I were jamming to Usher when we needed some inspiration. Because Usher is ALWAYS good for inspiration 😉 Although, as far as actually smashing her cake, she would rather have stayed clean and dry. One look at her icing covered hand and she was outta there! I promised her as she was getting cleaned up, that the next time we hung out for a family session later in the year, we could stay mess free (and of course, listen to more Usher!)

I hope you’re ready to smile a ton while you’re looking through these. My cheeks hurt already!

Nǐ hǎo Vivianne! | Red Thread Session; Dulles Airport

There is an old Chinese Proverb that is very popular and commonly-used in the adoption community.  It says: “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstances.  The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break.”  The Proverb symbolizes the bond that all adoptive children have with their adoptive parents, even before they meet. I am part of an organization that gives back to adoptive families in my community through photography. Red Thread Sessions offer different options to capture this amazing new chapter including a family portrait session within the first three months of their finalized adoption, a birth session of the child being born into an open adoption or a homecoming session at the airport to capture the family’s first moments all together! Adoption has touched my family, so volunteering my time for such an amazing cause is definitely a work of heart for me.

This was such a fun experience for me because I am usually a perfectionist and like to have most of the variables of my portrait sessions set up the same way for every session, that way I know exactly how to create the sweet portraits everyone loves! But there is something to be said for jumping into a real life experience in a new place to capture as the raw and magical moments happening in real time.

I had the absolute honor of being at the airport on Thursday evening to greet Vivianne arriving from China and capturing her becoming the newest family member in the Lamont family! She is their first little lady with three handsome big brothers to chase around. Even after a 15 hour flight from China (not to mention customs and becoming a US. Citizen!) Vivi was in such a good mood! Helen was away for two weeks without her boys, so they were all so excited to see each other again too. It was just a big, exciting homecoming for everyone! I hope you enjoy the beautiful beginning to Vivi’s new story!
