Gonna Make This Place Our Home | Family Photography; Clarksburg, MD

Ok, so this session isn’t my typical sunset in a field session, but I’m SO glad I jumped out of my typical workflow to capture this family’s awesome vision. Noel messaged me about a family session, but with a special idea in mind! They are having their first home built and it was currently in the framing stage. What a great way to capture this exciting time than to have a family session IN their unfinished house! Think of how cool it will be to see these pictures after the house is finished and they’re all moved in, or after Ava packs up to go to college and has spent her entire childhood growing up within those walls that we played between one warm October night so long ago. Every session I finish, I always step back and look through the entire gallery and think of all of those sweet moments families share that they get to keep forever and it makes me feel so fulfilled. I really adore this session and what special moments I got to capture. Not to MENTION how much FUN I had chatting with Supergirl, Ava. Shooting ice powers like Elsa, singing Moana songs and joking with Mom and Dad. We all bonded so much during our short session. I had such a great time!

Waiting For Baby Sister! | Maternity Family Photography; Germantown, MD

This session was just about a year in the making. I open up my family sessions for booking for the next year in November, so when Sarah was scheduling this session, she was hoping it would turn out just how it happened: their family session turned into a maternity session! I LOVE when I get to find out about new babies and growing families sometimes before anyone else. It is such a gift and a privilege to be trusted by so many clients that I consider friends after sharing so much of our lives together. My sessions every weekend have had the most perfect weather ever. James was having a fun time running around, which gave us some time to capture some absolutely STUNNING shots of just Sarah and Matt, which I love.  I of course had to capture a few of James with just him and mom and dad separately because these are his last few weeks of having the spotlight to himself! I can hardly remember what life was like before my family became four, seems like forever and a lifetime away from the crazy two boy-life I know today. I’m so happy they have these to remember this fall fun they had while they waited for baby sister!

Sunshine In My Sky | Newborn Photography; Germantown, MD

This beautiful baby in might be one of my favorite sessions ever, but I might be a tiiiiny bit biased because she comes from my gene pool. YUP, she is my cousin’s first daughter, Skylar. You might remember our pink sky maternity session while we waited for her to arrive. And she has finally shown up and stopped in to hang out in my studio! Photography is such an amazing gift because within the 40-some pictures of the same beautiful little face, I saw tiny bits of myself, my cousins, my aunts, my mother, my Gammy, my great grandma within her. All gifts from the women before her who have dreamed and worked and lived and laughed and passed their grace onto her.

I feel like the more I dive deeper into my love of photography, the further back I step in the grand scheme of things. I get to stop time and focus on tiny pieces of such a large gift of new life that have probably already changed since her pictures were taken last week and will continue to change forever!

Elizabeth – 10 Days New! | Newborn Photography; Germantown, MD

When I get ready for newborn sessions, I don’t just pick out hats and headbands and lay flowers into buckets, I make sure the main seeable section of my home is bright and shiny and relaxing. Usually a sleepy blend of essential oils is diffusing and my favorite soft pop hits are lightly singing through the air. When I have older siblings arriving, I make sure to greet them first and introduce myself and see what kind of fun stuff they’re into. Lucky for my client’s big brother, my younger son, Zac just recently got very into trains, so I was ready when he told me he loved Thomas the Tank Engine. I pulled out my son’s box of train tracks and blocks and I dragged his train track rug out of his room. I knew we would be good to go with little sis as big brother played quietly (occasionally peeking in to see what was happening in the studio!) Not only was he great behind the scenes, but James was SO charming with Elizabeth when it was his time to shine, I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite – as you will see! This whole family was so sweet and I always feel it is a true honor to photograph a family within those precious first few weeks. Get your baby fix below!

Puppy Love! | Maternity Photography; Germantown, MD

I love when clients I adore send me MORE clients to adore. That’s just how I met Natasha and Luke! They are actually friends with 3 different clients of mine whom I all had such a great time with and they were no different! They even brought their handsome puppy, Rocky along. He was such a great little model for us and so well behaved while he sat and watched us get some shots without him. I’m so excited for these two as they await their baby girl. Those quiet last few weeks are such a blur- almost as if anything before your children were born is a completely different life all together. Having these sweet moments captured will always remind them of this time before their lives changed and for years to come.
