Mason’s Mini Session | Frederick, MD Child Photographer

It has been so pretty outside lately. Not too sticky hot, not too breezy cool. Fall is creeping around the corner, you guys! I was a little hesitant to accept fall as eagerly as some, but now that Labor Day has passed, I’m getting excited. I had the pleasure of spending some time outside with Mason last week. He is the nephew of one of my best friends, and Mason and my son, Jesse hang out a bit, so I was really looking forward to this session. When I was planning it out, I just knew I had to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the setting sun. Between that golden glow, and his adorably warm smile, this mini session is the perfect End of Summer session.

Sigh. Such a sweet, bright session.

Instagramming emiB | Personal Post

I love seeing what goes on behind the scenes. My husband always jokes with me when I ask to see the bloopers after I finish movies (even and most especially after scary movies- hey, I need to lighten the mood!) and we like to watch how movies and TV shows are made and put together. It probably comes from my love of being on and back stage. So here is a peek behind the emiB scene. I thought I’d show off some of my favorite emiB instagrams. If you want to stay updated with me and my work, follow me on instagram or search for #emiBphotography!

Mmmm… I always love a good cup of coffee. Especially if it’s before or after a session. My lovely camera bag is accompanying the holiday Starbucks cup on the left (those will be coming back sooner than I’ll be ready for!). I love my personally ’emiB’ marked cup in the center. I wish this could happen every time. Fun Fact: It was actually marked by my friend, former co-worker and client, Jo Beth! One of the fabulous birthday gifts I received this year was my bee cup on the right!
Here are a few of my favorite set ups. Even just looking at the small differences between one of my first sessions ever [on the left] and my latest session [on the right], I can see how much I have grown as a photographer. The fact that I love each session’s outcome more and more tells me I’m going in the right direction!
I do all of my own marketing and graphic design, so I like to show off when my ideas come together and come to life. The only down side (if you can call even it that), is that I’m changing things all the time. The CD label design as already changed. I have even been thinking of other designs for later. Maybe I’ll have a few and back and fourth. You’ll just need to keep booking to see them all!
Sometimes I’m the one getting caught on camera. That last one was risky! But it worked out really well. It’s the crazy things that usually make a great image. Shout out to Sassy Straps for my beautiful camera wrist strap in the print Teal The End.
I absolutely LOVE seeing my clients post their favorite shots and what they did with their images.
This was the debut shot of my lovely 50mm! And then there’s my view while I’m editing (my sweet little Jesse sitting on my lap) and a shot of the back of my camera as I was going through shots I’d taken that day. This one was from Jo Beth’s ‘Getting Ready’ session before she walked down the aisle! (There’s another beloved coffee cup shot).
I hope you guys liked going behind the scenes! I have grand plans for emiB. It’s tough to keep positive sometimes in this business, especially when your time and hard work gets taken advantage of, but it means the world to me how much love and support I feel from all of you. I’m so lucky to be able to have such an amazing job.
My Music: Sara Bareilles’ new album is amazing, my favorites are Brave and I Choose You. Very uplifting and upbeat.
My Coffee: GUYS. Cold Stone ice cream creamer is THE bomb. I tried the ‘Hot For Cookie’ flavor and it is so yummy.
leave some love,

A Day In The Life of EmiB | Personal Post

I spend so much time taking pictures of other families, that I forget to take some time to capture my own life. I have the amazing opportunity to be able to work from home so a ‘day in the life’ is mostly Jesse-filled. He is my whole world and I put most of my focus towards him during the day. I get most of my work done during naps and after bed time. I feel like I have two full time jobs! My days are filled with so much joy from raising my little guy and watching him grow, to capturing memories and keeping up with paperwork.  I may be exhausted at the end of the day, but I love every moment. And I love coffee. Coffee always helps.
It’s important to feel comfortable with your photographer and I feel like a big part of that is getting to know me better. My plan is to start posting more personal posts! Starting with a look inside my every-day! I’m usually kind of a perfectionist when it comes to portrait photography, but I get to break the rules a little with this project since it’s lifestyle and above all, it’s for fun.

First things first, coffee.
We spend most of the day playing and learning. These blocks were a favorite of my husbands when he was little so we had to buy some for Jesse. He loves them too!
He never goes anywhere without his puppy blanket.
After playing around some inside, if it’s not raining, we go explore outside.
Those little baby blues can’t handle the sun! He doesn’t keep sunglasses or hats on, but he still has the cutest smile ever.
Even the flowers were hot!
Exploring will work up an appetite!
By the end of lunch, Jesse is usually ready for a nap. Look at those eyes!
Iconic ‘scraped boy knees’ and his comfort blanket.
It was raining this afternoon, so we watched through the screen door (and maybe ran out on the porch for a minute), Jesse loves the rain.
Jesse has started holding our hands before eating and saying “amen”. Sigh – my heart.
I try to make his meals mostly fresh fruits and veggies. This was a ‘lazy day’ dinner of cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, a cheese stick and pretzels. He loved it!
Daddy comes home and they play around a bit and before we know it, it’s time for bed!
A little peek of my desk. My personalized Erin Condren Life Planner (which I am totally in love with!), some emiB products (my business cards and my digital collection case), my printing lab’s product booklet, and a candle warmer for yummy smells and aroma therapy for the evening. I think it’s “spring breeze” right now.
I get most of my work done by the light of my computer screen at night. I’m usually editing and posting things to facebook.
When I get to a point where I can stop for the night, I head over to bed to read until I pass out. I’m in the middle of  a Harry Potter re-read. So that’s a stack of J. K. Rowling amazingness on my night table. Along with my water and my charging electronics.

Thanks for taking a peek inside a typical day. Hopefully you learned a little something about me and my family. I’ll keep posting little things here and there.

We are headed to the beach this weekend! I hope to share some really fun sessions with you guys when I get back. Don’t forget to tell your friends about my mini sessions! It’s such a great little deal and it takes almost no time out of your family’s schedule, but the memories will last a life time.

I’m also available for full sessions while I’m down there so e-mail me to book your session today!

Leave some love guys!

New Little Zuri | Frederick, MD Newborn Photographer

Zuri was a very special newborn session for me. Typically, newborn sessions are best within a little one’s first two weeks, but Zuri had already hit the 6 week mark! She was a month premature, so it was as if she were the size of a two week old. I could not believe how sweet she was and she slept like a champ!
Newborn sessions are so different from all other sessions. Most of the time, as a photographer, you are jumping around, being flashy and funny, running around after little ones and making everyone laugh. Newborn sessions are quiet and warm and I keep very clam and serene. I have a feeling they can tell when you are stressed or feeling rushed. I think back to when my mother-in-law could rock my son to sleep in a matter of minutes and hold him for an hour while he napped. Grandmothers don’t need to be anywhere else, she didn’t feel the want to put him down to shower or eat a meal or take a nap like most new parents do. I find that I don’t just need to prepare my studio with 80 degree temperatures, white noise machines and heaters that warm blankets, I make sure to prepare myself, find my center, do a few yoga poses, get into that calm and restful place. I really love the vibe during newborn sessions. I like to let the parents relax. They can just sit and sip some hot coffee, close their eyes or catch up on writing out their thank you notes from the baby shower.
I really like being in the newborn ‘zone’. It reminds me of the zone I get in when I’m painting or drawing. A part of my brain takes over and everything else fades out. It’s all just about making art.

It really paid off with this sweet little one because I just adore how her gallery came out.

Baby wrinkles… sigh!

Milk bubbles! Be still my heart.
A sweet smile!
10 beautiful little fingers and 10 tiny toes. Sometimes the little details make the most magical photos.

I definitely need more newborn sessions in my life! I do have a really fun session coming up soon and I can’t wait to share it with you guys. I’ve got so many big plans for emiB. This is going to be one busy bee!

Music: I just made a Disney play list this weekend. Yup, you read that right. Disney. Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, all the greats. I’ve really loved singing along.

Coffee: It’s frappuccino weather! The caramel ribbon crunch frap is really sweet, but very yummy. I plan to try the mocha cookie crumble next time.

Jo becomes a Mrs! | Outer Banks, NC Photographer

I give major props to wedding photographers, especially ones who work alone. You have to be in a million places at once, dealing with tons of different lighting situations, once in a life time moments that you must get on the first shot and thousands of photos to look through. I tip my hat to you folks. It’s quite a job. However, I absolutely love a good wedding and I can never pass up a chance to appreciate the little details and precious moments.
You all remember the lovely Jo Beth and Landon?
Well I had the absolute honor of capturing some fantastic moments of Jo getting ready for her BIG day.
Wow. Jo’s eyes + Coffee mug + engagement ring= my favorite combo
Most importantly, updating facebook “WE ARE GETTING MARRIED FOR REAL!”  I love it.
How amazing are these flowers? Made out of sheet music. They are the coolest people ever.
 The fabulous ‘shoe shot’!
Some of her maids getting ready!
Watch out! Even with a little hairspray to the ear, Jo Beth is all smiles! She’s so cute.
 Gorgeous
Her mom is the cutest thing in the world and she looked amazing!
Her dad’s first glance at his little girl all ready to say “I do.”
It made Jo get a little teary. <3
A few hours later, my husband, son and I were lucky enough to be invited to their wedding. It was so perfect and so Jo Beth and Landon. I’m not gonna lie, I got a little teary. I mean, I knew them before they were even together and now look at them! Love is truly amazing and so brilliantly beautiful. I’m such a hopeless romantic, so weddings are really special to me. I had some time before the Mr. and Mrs. arrived at the reception, so I took my camera and captured a few details.
A DIY cupcake station. And guys, they were delicious. This one on the right was the one I made.

“May the fourth brew with you!”

Not only are they super cute for tying in their adorable nerdy-ness and love for coffee into their favors, but they even used one of their engagement pictures from their session with yours truly!

One of the bridesmaid’s beautiful handmade bouquets.

Sigh– don’t you just love a good wedding? I had a blast and I loved stepping into a wedding photographer’s shoes, but I’m glad it was just for fun. I’ll stick to portraits for the most part.
Thank goodness it’s getting warmer out!  I can’t wait to get outside and shoot some fun summer golden hour sessions.

Coffee: I have a few free birthday treats from different places, but I’m probably most excited about my free Starbucks drink! I think I’ll go for an iced hazelnut macchiato. Yum!

Music: Michael Buble’s new album came out! I love his latest single “It’s a Beautiful Day” and I’m also really into Gavin DeGraw’s “Soldier”. Lot’s of feel good music for spring with the windows open and the birds chirping. Definitely my favorite season.

Leave some love! <3
